Greetings FAME FAMILY!
A Special Message From
Pastor John J. Hunter and First Lady Denise Hunter
In 2010 Let’s All Resolve to be What God Created Us To Be
Each New Year brings new resolutions and new promises to make changes in our lives that improve our quality of life and make us better people. We start the New Year committed to exercising three times a week, spending more time with family and friends and leading a more balanced life. In many instances, these resolutions involve making changes that are more external and superficial than internal and sustaining. Making resolutions that simply involve changing our dress size, losing weight or making fine lines and wrinkles disappear only brings us momentary happiness, not the life-long joy that comes from making changes on the inside.
Committing ourselves to honest self-examination and correction usually involves a lot more time and energy than making changes on the outside. Interior changes entail reflection, introspection and the painful admission of flaws and failings that bring hurt and harm to us and to other people. Interior changes also require that we seek a closer connection to God so that we gain a better understanding of who we are and what we were created to be. It is only through our relationship with God that we acquire the strength and courage to make the foundational changes to our mind and spirit that allow us to move into new realms of opportunities and possibilities. Not making the necessary changes to our interior relegates us to recycling years of unrealized resolutions and frustrated attempts at long -term change.
God wants us to understand that only by leaning and depending on him can we ever be successful at moving beyond habits and practices that sabotage our attempts at being our best selves. As spiritual beings, we are not designed to live successfully just by using the knowledge we gain through education and experience. We are designed to be an extension of our Creator, the hands, feet and voice of an all knowing and all loving God. The fulfillment of our purpose and our ability to fully self-actualize is deeply rooted in our ability to trust and believe in God. Without complete faith and complete trust in God we will never experience peace that passeth all understanding and fullness of joy.
This New Year as you contemplate your resolutions, let’s not just focus on losing weight, finding a new partner, or getting a new house or car. Let’s focus on opening our hearts, minds and souls to God’s unfailing love. Let’s focus on forgiving those who have sinned against us. Let’s focus on becoming a beacon of light and love in a world of darkness. Matthew 6:33 reads “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and all of its righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” In 2010, let’s seek God first and watch everything else in our lives fall into place.
Much Love,
Pastor John and Lady Denise
