Red Cross Partners with First A.M.E. Church of Los Angeles

On Sunday, September 20th, the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles staff, volunteers and AmeriCorps members attended three First African Methodist Episcopal Church (F.A.M.E.) services to educate the congregation on being prepared for an emergency. This new partnership supports the Red Cross’ efforts during National Preparedness Month to increase public awareness and knowledge about disaster preparedness.

During the services, guest speaker Curtis Parker, partnership services manager, American Red Cross addressed the importance of becoming a prepared congregation and recognized F.A.M.E.’s strong commitment to it’s community.  Between services AmeriCorps members distributed brochures, fliers and emergency document holders with information regarding volunteer recruitment, community disaster education and blood services.

As part of the partnership the Red Cross will be collaborating with Rev. J.L. Armstrong and F.A.M.E.’s Disaster Preparedness Ministry to enable the congregation and community in receiving training in CPR, first-aid and sheltering.
