Lets' Move L.A. Free Workout Camp
Inspiring Los Angeles Residents to Get Healthy

Natalie Mignon was anxious to do something about her weight and overall health. But it wasn't until recently, when Let's Move L.A. and FAME So Fresh Produce Marketplace put together a neighborhood workout camp that she decided to take the first step.

"I was getting depressed but I love this!" said Ms. Mignon, who walked to the camp from her home.  "It's a great way to get in shape, be outdoors with friends and be in a safe environment," she said.

The free, six-week camp is taught by a certified personal trainer and incorporates group activity, one-on-one consultation, and important information on food selections to promote better health. The camp is one of several emerging components of FAME's Let's Move L.A. health initiative to get local children and adults more fit and healthier. The national campaign, Let's Move!, was started by First Lady Michelle Obama to eliminate childhood obesity through physical fitness and healthy eating habits. Let's Move L.A. is the supportive arm of that effort being led by Mrs. Denise Hunter, President and Chief Executive Officer, of FAME Corporations.

"We have collectively resolved to fight the childhood obesity epidemic and the illnesses caused by obesity that are plaguing our community," said Mrs. Hunter who along with her husband, Rev. Dr. John J. Hunter, Senior Minister of FAME Church of Los Angeles, have been diligently engaging parents, school officials and local leaders to adopt the campaign.
Natasha Williams, who has also signed up to be a part of Let's Move L.A. and attend the workout camp, explained that she was diagnosed as pre-diabetic and decided to aggressively alter her lifestyle.

"I thought eating better would have been enough but it wasn't, so this is perfect for me," said Ms. Williams who added that her grandchild at 12-years old developed high blood pressure due in part to being overweight. "I plan on bringing others with me, this is a great place to meet people, and Let's Move L.A. is a great idea," she added.

FAME's Neighborhood Workout Camp is held on Saturdays at the FAME So Fresh Produce Marketplace located at the corner of Western and Adams and open every weekend. Upcoming dates for the camp are June 5th, 12th,19th 26th and July 3rd, 2010. As with Let's Move L.A., the goal of the camp is to instill a greater appreciation for exercise and its many benefits - physical, psychological and for many, spiritual well being.
