Pastor John J. Hunter and First Lady Denise Hunter
Partner with Cedric "The Entertainer" to assist with the launch of Soul Man TV Land Network's Newest Original Sitcom

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA -- On Sunday, July 15, 2012, Pastor John J. Hunter and First Lady Denise Hunter welcomed to First AME Church of Los Angeles, Cedric A. Kyles known professionally by his stage name Cedric the Entertainer. TV Land is giving one of the original "Kings of Comedy" his own sitcom! Laugh-out-loud comedians Cedric "The Entertainer" and Niecy Nash star in the network's newest original series. "The Soul Man" revolves around R&B superstar-turned-minister Reverend Boyce "The Voice" Ballentine (played by Cedric) who was living the high life in Las Vegas at the top of the music charts when he gets the calling to go from soul singer to soul saver.

Relocating to St. Louis with his wife, Lolli (Nash) and his daughter, Lyric (Jazz Raycole) to take over the preaching duties in his father's church - his family is not exactly eager to give up the fabulous superstar life for a humble one. The comedy also stars John Beasley ("Everwood") as Boyce's father, Barton; Wesley Jonathan ("What I Like About You") as his brother, Stamps; and Raycole ("My Wife and Kids") as his daughter.

“It’s a blessing to be here and have an opportunity to talk about my show. You could see I was about to go to the big ‘desk’ before Pastor John (Hunter) pulled me back,” he jokingly told FAME’s 1,000+ members at the 10 a.m. service.

“We’ve had great shows in the past like ‘Amen,’ but I had the vision for this show, where we could talk in our community about some of the issues that are going on, show a family that’s loving, growing, learning, and we do it with each other.”

Joining the audience in applauding Cedric’s comments, Pastor Hunter noted, “There are not many positive, affirming, family-oriented shows that are clean on television. It’s the kind of family program that doesn’t undermine the image of African Americans, but it reinforces the positive with levity and fun.”
