FAME CHURCH HONORS LAPD CADET PROGRAM GRADUATES

Pastor John J. Hunter and First Lady Denise Hunter commend LAPD Cadet Program Graduates with special commendations from First AME Church of Los Angeles, California State Senator Curren D. Price, Jr., California State Assemblyman Mike Davis and Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard Parks.

"We count upon you and your fellow Cadets to model good citizenship and to demonstrate leadership skills for your peers and your elders. The doors that will open to you as a result of your training and your upholding and honoring of the Cadet’s Oath will be limited only by you. We encourage you to continue to search for your purpose and your calling through education, preparation and dedication to excellence," said Pastor John J. Hunter, Senior Minister of First AME Church of Los Angeles.

The Cadet Program is designed to offer youth an opportunity to develop skills that will help them throughout their lives, while working with one of the finest law enforcement agencies in the country. The Program is offered at each of the 21 community police stations across the city, as well as at two specialized divisionsThe purpose of the LAPD Cadet Program is to help instill discipline, leadership, academic excellence and life-skills in all youth participants. The LAPD Cadet Program also seeks to empower students to maximize their personal, scholastic and their life potential. It has four principle goals:

  • To recruit young men and women who are interested in building positive relationships between police and the youth of our communities.
  • To provide a forum in which young people can provide community service while working with law enforcement.
  • To provide character-training, public-speaking and academic instruction that prepares young people for their future.
  • To offer physical training that will result in improved physical fitness for all who participate in the program.

Cadets are as diverse as the city they represent. Each of them comes from different backgrounds and have different goals and paths that they are following to get there. However, what remains the same in all Cadets is their desire to achieve excellence within their own lives and to then leverage those achievements to positively impact the community where they live.

"The Word of God provides guidance for young people in Proverbs 3:1-8, including the charge of the sixth verse: “In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Along with our congratulations for your achievement, we cover you with our prayers that you will choose the path directed by God today, tomorrow and forever," said First Lady Denise Hunter.
