STATEMENT BY PASTOR JOHN J. HUNTER
REGARDING GEORGE ZIMMERMAN'S ARREST AND CHARGE WITH SECOND-DEGREE MURDER OF TRAYVON MARTIN

George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, faces a second-degree murder charge for shooting Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager in Sanford, Fla., the special prosecutor in the case announced Wednesday, April 11, 2012.

In a statement, Pastor John J. Hunter, Senior Minister of First AME Church of Los Angeles said "We are encouraged by the Special Prosecutor's decision (Florida State Attorney Angela B. Corey) to charge Mr. Zimmerman with second degree murder. As a former assistant prosecutor, it seems to be the appropriate charge to me, based on all of the information that the public has been made aware of. We are pleased that justice will move forward. We are disheartened that it took protest, rallies and a number of Television Programs and a delay of 40 some days to bring us to this point. However, we are please that we will be moving forward and we pray for a fair and just trial by an impartial jury and a fair judge. We are encouraged and in prayer for the family."
