First AME Church of Los Angeles Commemorated the 1992 Civil Unrest and Issued a Call for Peace and Reconciliation. 

Los Angeles, CA -- On Sunday, April 29, 2012, First AME Church of Los Angeles Commemorated the 1992 Civil Unrest and Issued a Call for Peace and Reconciliation. The Commemoration Services at First AME Church of Los Angles, included interpretive liturgical dance, a moving video of remembrance, prayers and uplifting music led by the Men of FAME Choir.At 8:00 AM Service, Blair H. Taylor, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Los Angeles Urban League was the keynote speaker . The Rev. Al Sharpton was the guest preacher at the 10:30 AM and 12:30 AM. worship services.

Danny Bakewell, Sr.,  LA Sentinel executive publisher, introduced the Rev. Sharpton at 10:30 AM, and Laphonza Butler, president of SEIU Long Term Care Workers Union, presented him at the 12:30 PM.,worship service. "We know we've made progress in the last two decades, but there are many things that remind us that racism and injustice still exist in our city, said Pastor John J. Hunter.  In addition to the Rev. Sharpton, many special guests who participated in the healing of Los Angeles following the unrest attended the worship service, he added. Representatives from all communities came together in a spirit of reconciliation and unity to reflect on how far we have come since the civil unrest.  Community leaders also committed to working together to ensure that they never allow tensions to escalate to that level again. We are our brother's and our sister's keeper and April 29, 1992 shows us what can happen when we fail to live up to that responsibility, said First Lady Denise Hunter.
