Los Angeles, CA – Sunday, April 10, 2011, the First African Methodist Episcopal Church (FAME) and Get Connected! will host a community resource fair that will feature educational exhibits, information on local free internet access, computer trainings, and many other community resources – education specialists, financial planning, parent and youth groups, social services, and family resources. In addition, this event will offer free last minute tax preparation support – during this time participants will have an opportunity to file their taxes for free online.

GetConnected! is a broadband internet awareness and adoption program of the California Emerging Technology Fund (CETF). In a joint effort, FAME and Get Connected! will raise broadband internet awareness and offer valuable resources and services to the congregation of FAME and the community it serves.

Los Angeles City Councilman Tony Cardenas (District 6) states "If we are going to improve the economic health of our communities, then we need to give neighborhoods of all socio-economic backgrounds the ability to connect with city services and the ability to connect with each other."

"This community resource fair is a valuable opportunity to help our neighbors access services that will improve their financial lives and digital literacy. Free last-minute tax preparation assistance is a huge stress reliever for many families who don’t have the means to pay for these services. Plus, this is also an educational fair to teach families how to access online bill-paying services, free computer & job training, and other web-based social services to make their daily lives easier, more efficient, and cost-effective," stated Denise Hunter, President & COO, FAME Assistance Corporation.

About First African Methodist Episcopal Church (FAME)
FAME Los Angeles is the oldest church founded by African Americans in the City of Angels. In 1872 Mrs. Biddy Mason received the vision from God to establish a church that would minister to the mind, body and soul of all who would join that small band of believers. That vision and small band of believers has grown to what is now a congregation of more than 19,000 members and several dozen ministries within 13 corporations that bless and reach tens of thousands of seekers in greater metropolitan Los Angeles.

About Get Connected
GetConnected! is a statewide public awareness program, of the California Emerging Technology Fund, that educates individuals and families about the economic and social benefits of broadband connectivity high-speed Internet. The program works closely with schools, community-based organizations, and individuals to break down barriers, address misperceptions and close the Digital Divide that currently exists in California.
