April 28th, FAME Set to Launch Let’s Move LA!
Residents from throughout the city of Los Angeles are being encouraged by the leadership at FAME Corporations and First AME Church of Los Angeles (FAME) to join the new and exciting health initiative, Let’s Move LA! The kick-off party will be held Wednesday, April 28th at the FAME Renaissance Center in the heart of South Los Angeles at 11:00 a.m. This dynamic campaign seeks to end childhood obesity and bring greater awareness on the health and well- being of America’s children. “We have long been committed to improving our community and fostering a brighter future for children who are perpetually disadvantaged by poverty, poor education and lack of access to resources,” said Mrs. Denise Hunter, President and Chief Operating Officer of FAME Corporations. Mrs. Hunter is leading the Los Angeles supportive arm of the nationwide campaign started by First Lady Michelle Obama, and has been meeting with school officials and students about the event. The Let’s Move LA! launch party will include physical and educational activities for all ages. As part of the musical entertainment, Lauren Thompson Hall, choreographer from NBC’s Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, has reprised the inspiring dance number seen in episode three, which will be performed live by students from Central Los Angeles High School of Visual and Performing Arts. Dr. Morrow who serves as Director at Frederick Douglass High School stated that he is challenging all the schools in Los Angeles to join Let’s Move LA! Hundreds of students, including a large delegation from Frederick Douglass High School will attend the event. Other participants include baseball legend Dave Winfield and actor Michael J. Pagan. A diversity of partners from government and private agencies, community based organizations, businesses, faith-based leaders, educators and parents have confirmed their attendance and ambitiously committed to solving the epidemic of ending childhood obesity. “Without our help, this next generation of children will grow up more likely to get diabetes, cancer and heart disease, and will suffer many physical but preventative aliments,” said Reverend Dr. John J. Hunter, Senior Minister of FAME Church. “It is our responsibility to help resolve this crisis for we are all God’s children, and we must honor our word to be our brothers’ keeper.” Let’s Move L.A kick of celebrations will be held at FAME’s corporate offices at 1968 W.
