MESSAGES OF LOVE FROM THE CHILDREN OF
BISHOP H. H. BROOKINS

Dear Dad:

Albert Einstein said, “the value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he is able to receive. You often asked what is your mission? “Sin” Bishop said goes to the point of having the ability to do something for the good of the whole and (not doing it), not just giving people some sort of anesthesia to get through life here on earth.

The footprints that you made in life have left a legacy for the AME Church and your family which you so dearly loved.  Dad, as you watch over us all I hope that you can see the footprints that you made in life have walked right into us to all.

Regards,
Steve Brookins

Dear Dad:

“I am so grateful to God for giving me you and allowing us this time together in life. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and for all your words of encouragement and for your prayers. “

Rev. Francine Brookins,

Dear Dad,

“The Bible says, “how beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel.” I would add another component; I would say, how beautiful are the hands of those who help to build the Kingdom of God. You have built the kingdom of God all over the world. I am so proud to have you as my father. I love you so very much. “

Sir-Willington Hartford Brookins

He Ordained me in 1993 at FAME...and because of him, I wanted to be like him in this church. He preached on going out to build God's word to a people in need...I took every word he preached that day to be the word of God. I have not looked back since. He is what this AME spirit is all about. To: Bishop H. Hartford Brookins Family, May the love of those around you help you through the days ahead. May the peace which comes from the memories of love shared, comfort you now and in the days ahead. May the comfort of God help you during this difficult time. We are thinking of you during this difficult time. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel. Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer. Our hearts go out to you in your time of sorrow. I was deeply saddened to hear of your loss. My thoughts are with you. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family. When we lose someone we love, it seems that time stands still. What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die. God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. We are deeply saddened by your loss. We will cherish the memories of the times we spent together. We are with you during this time of grief. Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, May looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow. God Bless, Kimtraila Williams

Rev. Dr. Teresa|Fry Brown| Bishops Brookins presided as I began my journey in ministry at Shorter A.M.E. Church in Denver, Colorado. He was a mentor and friend to my father in ministry, Rev. Jesse Langston Boyd, Jr.in the Fifth Episcopal District. I particularly appreciated his progressive leadership, transformative preaching, passionate activism, disarming humor and obvious love of the church and family. Through pictures and stories over the years from his beloved daughter, Rev. Francine, I remained vicariously connected to an inimitable model of how to remain humanly connected to family, love and enjoy life and do this work called ministry. Bishop Brookins’ spirit and legacy will remain evident throughout the African Methodist Episcopal Church and all Christendom. I do not know the depths of your pain but know a God who can heal your spirit and soul. Please know that I am praying without ceasing for each of you in this season of loss.

F. Danielle |White| It was our (the late Henri and Faith White)pleasure to know and be of service to Bishop Brookins. He was the first AME Bishop to select our new African Kente designed robe in l991. As he walked by on his way to worship service he took hold of a robe we had on display and said "I must have that", and he did. Supervisor Brookins was a good friend to me and I to her although we live on different coasts. It was a privilege to know we could care about each other even though our contact was infrequent. My prayers and condolences go out to her and the family. Her preentation at the services was heartwarming. F. Danielle White,Ebenezer AMEC, Charleston South Carolina
